Power Up With Books!

Children ages 3 through third grade are invited to sign up for this summer’s reading program “Power Up With Books!” beginning Monday, June 30 in the Children’s Department at Russell Library, 123 Broad Street, Middletown.  When you sign up for the reading log, you will receive a small prize.  For every five books that you read or listen to, you will receive additional prizes.  Look for other fun programs throughout the summer, including Summer Stories and a Robot Coloring Contest.

Girl and Cloud Summer ReadingGear Up for Reading!

Gear Up for Summer Reading is a fun, interactive summer reading program for kids entering grades four and up.  For every book you read, and write a review on, you receive one raffle ticket to earn your chance to win one of our great prizes!  Read as many books  as you want, but the more you read and write, the more raffle tickets you receive.  It’s summer reading, your way!  So gear up and start reading….

Saturday, August 2 is "Favorite Stories Saturday."  On the first Saturday of every month, a Children’s Librarian will share her favorite stories with you at 10:00am in the Activity Room at Russell Library, 123 Broad Street, Middletown.  Drop by for stories and stay to make a craft together.  The stories are selected for children age 3-5 years and their caregivers.  Siblings are also welcome.  Get a great start on your 1st Saturday.  No registration is needed.

Builder's Challenges#1Imaginator Wheel

Building with blocks is easy; we’re thinking outside the block for this program.  We’re challenging you to build a structure with only two components– dry spaghetti and marshmallows!  We’re looking for tallest, sturdiest and most interesting structures.  This program is perfect for the budding architect.

Gadgets, Gizmos and More!: A Mini-Maker Fair Just for KidsImaginator

Maker fairs are making their way in to libraries everywhere.  A maker space is a place for people to come, try out new things and walk away with great ideas.  Come join Russell Library's first mini-maker fair, just for kids.  In this fun and interactive program, kids will explore the world of computer code, build gadgets, gizmos and more.  You will together to build a snap circuit OR try your hand at computer code.  Want to hear a song played completely on a banana?  Then Gadgets, Gizmos and more is the program for you!

Have fun with science and learn about the tasty food you can make with cream by turning it from liquid to solid. You will help make butter, ice cream, and whip cream. So get ready to shake whip and sample.

Build Your Own BiosphereMake your own terrarium

Participants will create a self-contained, living biosphere using
soil, rocks, plants and water.  If maintained, these will continue to flourish with only a bright spot for light, and perhaps some plant trimming!
