Russell Library is migrating to a new library system!

The Russell Library is moving from the LION (Libraries Online) consortium to LCI (Library Connection, Inc)

NOTE: We will have limited checkout services on Monday, December 6th. Please make sure to bring your library card with you. We will NOT be able to look up your account.

In order to complete the final transition of data, Russell Library will be closed on Tuesday, December 7, 2021.

Changes to Holds

To ensure we (and LION libraries) get materials back in a timely manner, you will be able to place holds on Russell Library items only from November 1st through December 8, 2021.

Changes to Auto-renewals

Again, to ensure we (and LION libraries) get materials back in a timely manner, auto-renewals will be turned off from November 1st through December 8, 2021. No worries, though! Russell Library is fine-free, so late charges will not accrue to your card.

Why is the library moving to a new library consortium?

There are many reasons, including:

  • Significantly lower annual operations fees
  • LCI’s innovative practices and user-friendly online catalog
  • Russell’s geographic proximity to other LCI consortium libraries (such as Portland, Cromwell, Berlin, and others)
  • 1.2 million more items will become available for borrowing via other LCI libraries

What do I need to do?

Not much! All patron accounts will transfer automatically. This includes all Libby accounts.

If you have any items checked out on your card, they will transfer automatically to the new system. Any holds you have placed will also transfer automatically.

The only thing that will not transfer is your reading history. If you wish to keep your reading history, simply login to your account, click on Reading History and then Download to Excel. NOTE: You must do this by Wednesday, November 24th.

There are a lot of questions when a library moves to another system. Check out some of the most common below.

What is a library consortium?

A group of libraries that share a library catalog and resources.

Which libraries are in Library Connection, Inc. (LCI) ?

You can see a list of member libraries here.

Do I need to register for a new library card?

No. Your current card number and anything checked out on your account will automatically transfer to the new system.

If there are no auto-renewals, will I be charged late fees?

No. Russell Library is fine-free. There are no charges for overdue materials.

Will I lose my place in line for the holds I have?

No. All holds will be merged into the LCI system by the date they were placed.

Will I still be able to use my Russell Library card at Libraries Online (LION) libraries?

Yes. Your Russell Library card is accepted at all public libraries in the state of Connecticut.

What about my Libby (eBooks) account?

Your Libby account will transfer automatically, along with your Libby holds and wishlist.

Will I still be able to use Hoopla??

Yes! Hoopla is a separate product. It will not be affected by the migration.
