The thirteen-member Board of Trustees administers the responsibilities of the Russell Library Company. Six members are elected from the membership of the Company, six members are appointed by the City, and one is a member of the Russell family.

Excellence in Public Library Service Award

Russell Library won this Connecticut Library Association award in 2026.

It honors public libraries that have provided an outstanding program or service to their communities, showing creativity and innovation, service to the community, and leadership in creating model programs and programs which will affect the future of the library and its community.

Friends of Connecticut Libraries Award

Won by the Friends of Russell Library in 2026.

This award is given to Friends groups that group that have undertaken any new initiatives, achieved a significant goal, or made impactful contributions to their libraries.
